However, I don’t see that PayPal has any significant advantage which another company couldn’t match. For example, Verified by Visa is becoming very common for credit card payments and I end up choosing it over PayPal for its simplicity and also to eliminate the PayPal middleman. Other services are also spreading rapidly, MasterCard SecureCode, Apple Pay, and Google Wallet (and Android Pay) being the obvious big names.
I agree with Your statement and that is why I own Visa (V), Mastecard (MA), Apple (AAPL), and Google (GOOGL) in addition to PayPal (PYPL). I believe transactions will continue to shift from paper currency based to electronic transfers and there is more than enough business for all of these companies to benefit. Who will be the BIG winner? Only time will tell but I feel I have the trend covered.
