Potential IoT Hardware Play

I read in Barron’s this weekend about some of Amazon’s most recently announced hardware, notably Sidewalk, which was announced at an Alexa event. An analyst believes it was based on LoRa.

Semtech controls the IP for LoRa. Here is an article on it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/spectrum.ieee.org/telecom/stand…

It can be used for IoT but has issues handling large amounts of data. I’m not calling Semtech the next ARM by any means. Semtech is an old company and I mainly know them for high reliability diodes and transistors where they compete with Microsemi, who is the big dog in that space and now owned by Microchip. Semtech’s revenues don’t seem to be going up as a result of LoRa either. They were down YoY as of last quarter.

From their most recent earnings transcript LoRa is in their industrial market. They said industrial revenue increased 24% sequentially and now 36% of revenue. They said the growth was led by LoRa. But it was apparently offset by the Huawei ban.

Here is their most recent transcript. They apparently have 5G products as well. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fool.com/amp/earnings/call-…
