Qcells To Shine Brighter In USA

The parent company of solar manufacturer Qcells, which builds solar panels at a massive facility in Dalton in Northwest Georgia, announced Friday that it will invest $170 million to boost production in the U.S.

South Korea-based Hanwha Solutions, which owns Qcells, said the money will allow the company to produce an additional 1.4 gigawatts of solar panels each year.

A company spokesperson did not specify where the new U.S. facility would be located or whether it will involve an expansion of its existing plant in Dalton. That facility, which opened in 2019, produces roughly 1.7 gigawatts of panels each year and employs approximately 750 people, according to the company.

Who notes while Georgia Power blames supply chain issues for its lackluster roll-out of a heavily promoted move into residential solar energy, it is just as likely that the company, whose Vogtle nuclear plant construction has been a consumer funded boondoggle that will never pay off, is paying lip service to being environmentally friendly while continuing to reap gross profits on the backs of customers…

Who notes while Georgia Power blames supply chain issues for its lackluster roll-out …

As a comparison up here we have NH Electric Coop that is promoting solar panels and offering rebates on their installation. The Coop figures it is cheaper to have the panels, than it is to build new electric power plants.

This is the difference between having a nonprofit produce your needed power vs a business that is trying to maximize profits.
