Remember when Alteryx left data exposed?

Remember when Alteryx left some anonymous advertising data exposed? Which was available for sale commercially. All the talking heads went wild.

Now Intel made a chip which left just about EVERY computer in the world, EVERY cell phone in the world, and EVERY pad in the world exposed. Sort of puts it in perspective, doesn’t it?

Word is that processor performance is crippled 25-35% due to the patch.

There’s no point in rushing to buy a new PC… but if you must the AMD processor is less impacted performance-wise.

Thinking back… wasn’t it also the nice people of Intel that gave us the floating point calculation error?

Potentially. But in reality, not so much. Apple’s had this patched since macOS 10.13.2 & iOS 11.2, which many have had installed for some weeks, and nobody has detected a slowdown in real world usage.

More here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208394 “Our testing with public benchmarks has shown that the changes in the December 2017 updates resulted in no measurable reduction in the performance of macOS and iOS…”

Word is that the Apple patches so far have not affected performance at all. No guarantees on future patches.
