Reminder: Learn & appreciate whilst you can

This is a timely reminder of not taking this amazing resource and the company we keep and learning opportunity we have for granted…

The UK Fool have just announced the closure of their discussion boards.

http://boards.fool.co.uk/closure-of-the-uk-discussion-boards…

Saul has always said learn what you can whilst you can and this is a reminder of that. If this board was not available from tomorrow, have you learnt everything from everyone that you wanted to and have you appreciated everyone’s contribution to each others’ financial literacy and enjoyment in the process?

In any such event - my thanks in advance for all the contributions from everyone here. It has been special! Thank you!

Cheers

Wow, How terrible. I sure hope they aren’t planning to close the main discussion boards like ours! Does anybody know!

I have been lazy. Just reading the board and researching some of the referenced companies a little bit. I realized that a few weeks ago and ran my stock screen and caught 19 companies. Familiar symbols were BOFI, DY, ESNT, LGIH. I have looked up revenue and earnings on one company and have meant to do so on FN, a Thai manufacturing service. Intended to ask our Asian posters if they know of it. Need to get going on this. I wonder how many of us have screened for candidates and followed the knowledge base? (By the way, I did copy the knowledge base to my computer, just in case the board goes the way of the UK). Paranoia runs deep

Yes and thank you (all here) for helping me with guidance on how to…

• set up a winning growth portfolio
• pick stocks
• view events with as little bias as possible, understanding, patience, and decisiveness when required.

While we all have differing goals, perceptions, and make decisions on our own, I desperately need the views of others in order to form my own.

Hi KC

I’m assuming this isn’t FN - Fabrinet but perhaps F&N (Fraser & Neave)? As in these guys?

They are listed in Singapore but I believe majority owned by Thai Bev. They dominate the local market drinks scene as well as dairy products with very good distribution across SE Asia. They compete with global players like Coca Cola and PepsiCo as well as local players like YEO.

They produce the classic 100 Plus category leading energy drink, all the usual flavoured fizzy drinks as well as soy milk based products and a range of dairy products from milk to yogurt.

They aren’t the kind of products or brand choice I would buy but I would think they are a good bet on Asia economic wealth and population growth. They are just the kind of high volume repeated consumer staples that fund managers might like.

FWIW whilst I am not in F&N I have looked at them and this year I have bought into 2 consumer food producers in Singapore - Japfa and QAF which are doing very well for me.

They must have a significant cash mountain from the brewing business sale. Their latest results announcement shows 100% growth in earnings but that’s off a 6% growth in revenue so not really an underlying or sustainable earnings record I wouldn’t think.

I think I have seen them recommended by DBS who currently have them at a hold. See this link for report…

If it doesn’t work let me know by private message and I can send you the pdf via email.

It is Fabrinet, FN. I haven’t vetted it at all, it just popped up on the screener. P/e 7. Pretty much a double in 2016, price-wise.
