Trump administration reverses decision to scrap ocean monitoring system
On Thursday, the National Science Foundation stated that it would halt plans to dismantle the Ocean Observatories Initiative, stating: “effective immediately, it will not proceed with further removal or descoping of equipment from the remaining arrays and will continue operations including planned maintenance”.
It should be noted: six out of seven platforms off the Pacific Northwest coast were removed, the agency halted further dismantling and is planning to redeploy the removed equipment.
The President pointed out that he knows more about the Ocean than all the scientists at The Ocean Observatories Initiative. The NSF also said it would “issue a Dear Colleague Letter" to collect input.
