RFK, Jr Seed Oils causes Steak ‘n’ Shake to switch back to beef tallow for french fries

Following the lead from RFK, Jr Steak ‘n’ Shake has switched back to beef tallow to deep fry its french fries and onion rings. Once beef tallow was preferred for best tasting french fries especially at McDonalds. Health concerns caused a switch to vegetable oils.

Recall that seed oils is another name for vegetable oils.

In 1957, the Framingham study found that cholesterol and fat increase the risk of heart disease. Vegetable oils became popular for their reduced cholesterol content. Later trans fats were an issue. Fats and oils are generally unhealthy but with only three food groups to choose from the trend was to carbs. Now we are left with high protein diets.

Consumers find these circular arguments confusing. They are led to believe none of the recommendations of experts are reliable.

Materials have multiple properties. It’s easy to select a few of them and make arguments for a few that shine by that yard stick. RFK, Jr prefers tallow because it has a high smoke point and because vegetable oils are more subject to oxidation. That can result in formation of new materials that he thinks may be toxic.

RFK, Jr is a well known agnostic. His efforts are not helpful. He takes us toward all foods are unhealthy. Living is unhealthy. What a wasted effort. We can do better.

Let’s set him on his path to “healthy” immediately. He could do-it-himself, but unlikely. Too cowardly to follow his own advice.
