I am cross my posting from the MF ROKU board as we have had several ROKU discussions on Saul’s board.
Roku will buy Nielsen’s Advanced Video Advertising business, which includes technology for identifying content and placing ads. This allows Roku to offer a fully addressable advertising solution for TV programmers.
If I understand it correctly, linear TV ads can be replaced by a programmatic ad stream when the linear TV is transmitted in an OOT (over the top) service such as ROKUs. My take is that this is a very cool way to steal ad revenue from linear OTT transmissions. This would over come the fixed constraints of linear TV advertising by allowing dynamic ad tuning based upon campaign performance. This could be a big deal for ROKU.
