SEC Considering Changes

US market open 24/7 or 23/5.
And allowing corporations to drop quarterly reporting to 6 month reports.

As he points out 24/7 trading already exists for some stocks due to ADRs and listing on multiple exchanges. 24/7 for all stocks will be quite a change. Just maintaining a market will require efforts. But global firms can easily hand off to overseas offices when appropriate.

I think most investors like quarterly earning reports. Less often gives companies more leeway to invest but investors prefer more info; not less.

As do I. I would really rather not have to think about what the market is doing at 3 AM.

The time the market is closed is also time for the market to pause and think instead of react.

Every institution wants their share of the compulsive gamblers.

Casinos don’t close down entirely.

Another good point!

Yes. There is a reason that most company earnings reports and government financial data are released outside of market hours.

Close also sets the NAV for mutual funds. No doubt there will be a closing moment for statistics purposes even if trading continues somewhere a second later.
