As he points out 24/7 trading already exists for some stocks due to ADRs and listing on multiple exchanges. 24/7 for all stocks will be quite a change. Just maintaining a market will require efforts. But global firms can easily hand off to overseas offices when appropriate.
I think most investors like quarterly earning reports. Less often gives companies more leeway to invest but investors prefer more info; not less.

The time the market is closed is also time for the market to pause and think instead of react.

Yes. There is a reason that most company earnings reports and government financial data are released outside of market hours.

Close also sets the NAV for mutual funds. No doubt there will be a closing moment for statistics purposes even if trading continues somewhere a second later.
