Semi-OT: Spinning disk to go obsolete?!?

So… this kind of makes me think Intel should have held out a bit on Optane  actually no, but solid state storage may soon dominate and even eliminate spinning disk, over energy requirements for data centers.

Of course we remember Winchester, when IBM put the first hard drive in a PC.

Solid state storage has to be much faster and more reliable than mechanical hard drives. Less energy. And more potential to fit into smaller spaces.

Moore’s law and smaller, cheaper storage seems to be driving changes. Yes, hard drives are probably on the endangered list.
