I don’t know if this is true or not…but it says Tesla pays nothing for the land
Land owners reportedly sign up for at least 5 years - after all Tesla has to make sure they recoup some value on their investment. Many agreements are for up to 10 years. Again monetarily, land owners pay nothing to Tesla, and receive nothing from Tesla.
The property owner basically gets the high profile status and draw of the Tesla Supercharger network, and Tesla gets use of the location.
Do we know how many Superchargers have batteries? I’ve never seen one, that I know of (I know what the cabinets look like since I’ve seen them at offices for power backup)
Nope. For what its worth, Electrify America has battery storage in about 150 or roughly 20% of its US charging stations, including at least one with a Tesla Megapack.
I suspect Tesla charging stations have batteries only where it makes the most financial sense, since there appears to be a lot of demand for powerpacks from people willing to pay retail prices. As the storage side of the business ramps up I would guess more Tesla sites will get battery storage, but what do I know? Tesla may have other priorities. It is trying to grow lots of things very quickly.
Having said that, as more Teslas hit the road I think battery storage at chargers becomes a necessity in many locations if only to alleviate pressure on the grid during peak times.
