Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson temporarily halted an order requiring the Trump administration make full Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) November payments by Friday.

I know, right? A Justice actually following norms and procedures rather than ideology.

Note that this is a 48 hour stay and that the Supreme Court (and individual justices) at least used to routinely grant stays when a lower-court order is under appeal and immediate compliance would change the legal status quo in a way that can’t easily be undone. Jackson’s order did not adjudicate the merits of the case; it simply allowed the First Circuit a little time.

The lower court is about to make the decision. The order is not truly needed.
