# Speaking of government subsidies

Item on the wire this morning about the Gov of a hot, humid, state, vetoing all state subsidies for the arts. Local theater and museum groups are, understandably, exercised about this. To the Gov’s credit, a few years ago, he vetoed a $35M handout to a baseball team to build a practice facility. A few years ago, a study produced in that state showed that $1 in state subsidies to sports teams only returned 30 cents in tax revenue to the state. So, I give him credit, for being even handed in not funding “art” or “sport”.

As usual, my favorite “go to” on government issues explored this issue.
