Today Square announces it’s Mobile pay SDK to get a piece of the e-commerce and mobile transaction market. Amazon was once thought of as a company who sold books online. Some people see Square as a payment dongle company. Think bigger!!

“Square today announced the launch of its in-app payments SDK that allows developers to build Square-powered payments right into their mobile apps.”

Did a quick search, and came across this list, detailing the most popular apps that feature in-app purchases:

This list is from 2017, and was for Android only, but good enough reference material that caused my ears to perk up even further.

The top 5 were:

  1. Pokemon Go - estimated 100 - 500 million downloads, generating $653 million in revenue
  2. 8 Ball Pool - estimated 100 - 500 million downloads, generating $987 million in revenue (pool!)
  3. Clash Royale - estimated 100 - 500 million downloads, generating $1.2 billion in revenue
  4. Candy Rush - estimated 500m - 1 billion downloads, generating $1.7 billion in revenue
  5. Clash of Clans - estimated 100 - 500 million downloads, generating $3.5 billion in revenue

This has the potential to be a big deal for Square.
