£ sterling

I don’t kbow much about currencies but the trend seems to be gradual long term weakening. Are we headed for parity with the US Dollar soon?

As an expat in London a while back I remember the Pound equating to $2.

Today equates to about $1.13

Just post ww2 it was worth $5. Long term loss of economic productivity perhaps? Loss of reserve currency status? The future of the dollar’s value might be written in the history of the pound sterling.

‘Are we heading for parity’? Almost certainly but who knows when. I’ve spent thirty plus years expecting it sooner or later. With apologies to the Smiths, How Soon Is Now?

When you say it’s gonna happen now
When exactly do you mean?
See I’ve already waited too long
And all my hope is gone
You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way?
I am Sterling and I need to be loved
Just like the Almighty Dollar does

Good one! Needed a good laugh and tune. From that same era, maybe Martin Fry was foreshadowing in “Millionaire”

“Pounds, Dollar, Millionaire…
I’ve seen the future,I can’t afford it
Tell me the truth sir, someone just bought it…”

$1.09 to £1 lowest since 15th March 1985!
