Takin' From the River

I think the important thing is that it has been done, and studies have been done. So anyone that said that this was just a pipe dream (See what I did there) was completely wrong. Many agencies have done the studies and just not seen it as feasible with todays technology.

They weren’t completely wrong because the conclusion is that it isn’t feasible.

You never know until you study the problem. It seems that they keep trying and even succeeded in California.

Your estimate so you fill in the X.

Volucris that is the best explanation yet.

New AI tool can dramatically improve SWE estimates for the west.

Not there quite yet, hopefully the updated estimates will eventually be used to allocate water rights in percentages based on SWE, not unrealistic quantities of acre feet.

When the farmers in the midwest run out of water in the aquifers, the great lakes in reserve will be put to use.

Food or LA? LA is going to lose. It is an undeclared loss.

Besides LA needs desalinization. Different story.

There is a treaty with Canada governing use of the lakes. Of course, if Shiny-land decided it wasn’t bound by the treaty, what could Canada do about it? As Shiny-land has decided to ignore a few treaties lately, seems anyone would question the enforceability of any agreement, be it a treaty, or redeeming US government debt, or honoring US currency.

There would be a new treaty. Anyone remember NAFTA?

A treaty that says the US will drain the lakes for the benefit of a USian constituency, with no benefit to Canada, isn’t going to get very far.

3x10^6 acre feet per year?
5.7 acre feet per minute = 1,857,000 gallons/minute?
2.5 Gigawatts
Lets say 500 MW per power plant
5 Nuclear Power plants - neglecting friction losses.
I’d say start the EIS now.

Just got back from fishing/floating the Colorado Headwaters. Flow was 124% of normal at 2300 cfs. That’s 17250 gps. I fished 5 hours and only caught 2 fish.

Geez, 2 fish in 310,500,000 gallons of water doesn’t seem like I did too well…

Just got back from Rafting the Grand Canyon. 10,000 cfs. Saw some fish, suckers and trout. Beautiful trip. Two thumbs up. 188 miles. 7 days. Motor raft. Lots of side hikes.

Where did you put in at and pull out? Did you have to get a permit? Did you take your own raft or go on a guided trip.

Put in at Lee’s Ferry, got out at Whitmore Wash. Guided trip with Hatch. They do a great job. signed up in November for a May trip. Late May is nice, hot, but not to hot. The water is very cold from Glen Canyon dam. Flow’s aren’t that high, and it may be a very long time before they are again, if ever. Fun though. Scenery is exceptional.

That is really nice Volucris. I am sure it was a blast. I love rafting but have never done the Colorado River. Thanks.
