Nope, 100 years is just about right.

Already did. As my favorite subject in school was history, to fill out the “general ed” requirement in college, I took a class in the 1920s. One of the books on the reading list for the class was “Babbitt”, published in 1922.
Babbitt (1922), by Sinclair Lewis, is a satirical novel about American culture and society that critiques the vacuity of middle class life and the social pressure toward conformity.
The word Babbitt has entered the English language as a “person and especially a business or professional man who conforms unthinkingly to prevailing middle-class standards”
In Missouri teachers need a 3.0 gpa in the subject they teach. That is now being reduced to 2.5. This probably is a reaction to the shortage of STEM teachers.
Low salaries mean high gpa STEM teachers can earn more in other jobs.
Yes, teachers are under valued. State raised annual minimum to $40k but some school districts have trouble doing that. More state aid required.
Arizona even named one of their Governors Babbitt.

AZ had a Gov named Evan Mecham, a flaming racist, who was not recalled by the voters only because he was impeached and removed by the state legislature first.
Accidents of parentage aside, I contend we are reliving the 1920s.
What were the 1920s know for, besides prohibition?
-isolation from goings on in Europe, the US never joined the League of Nations.
-multiple military interventions in Latin America.
-protectionist trade policy
-racist immigration policy
-rampant corruption in the Federal government…best known case being the Teapot Dome scandal.
-resurgent racism within the US. Many of the Confederate monuments that have been so controversial in recent years were erected in the teens and twenties.
