OK. The post title is somewhat click bait but is a true statement.

>
> A new study from iSeeCars shows people are being killed in Teslas far more often than any other brand

_It found that Teslas have a fatal crash rate of 5.6 per billion miles driven. [Kia](https://jalopnik.com/car-buying/kia) came in second with a rate of 5.5, followed by [Buick](https://jalopnik.com/car-buying/buick) at 4.8, [Dodge](https://jalopnik.com/car-buying/dodge) at 4.4 and [Hyundai](https://jalopnik.com/car-buying/hyundai) at 3.9._
Tesla is just a smidge above Kia.

_The study looked into more than just automakers, though. It also broke vehicles down by individual model. It still wasn’t pretty for Tesla. The [Tesla Model Y](https://jalopnik.com/fiery-tesla-crash-traps-and-kills-four-after-electric-d-1851697336) had a 10.6 fatal crash rate. That’s nearly five times the average for SUVs, and it was the sixth worth score overall. (The [Hyundai Venue](https://jalopnik.com/the-2020-hyundai-venue-looks-about-as-good-as-its-name-1834111987), [Chevy Corvette](https://jalopnik.com/the-best-corvette-is-the-one-youve-driven-1848938586), [Mitsubishi Mirage](https://jalopnik.com/dead-the-mitsubishi-mirage-1851614753), [Porsche 911](https://jalopnik.com/this-offer-for-a-porsche-911-gt3-at-3-840-a-month-for-1851697377) and [Honda CR-V Hybrid](https://jalopnik.com/2023-honda-cr-v-hybrid-first-drive-1849705690) were above it). The [Model S](https://jalopnik.com/its-time-to-discontinue-the-model-s-jalopinions-1851676382)’s score came in at 5.8, two times the average._

_To be fair to [Tesla](https://jalopnik.com/trump-now-has-control-of-tesla-full-self-driving-safety-1851698799), **these numbers don’t automatically mean its cars are unsafe for occupants. It has a lot more to do with how people drive these cars.** _

Yes I wish the article had more information about the accidents. Were the Teslas under FSD control when the accident occurred. Was rapid acceleration the cause of the accident. Some EV buyers buy due to the 0-60 speed performance.

I’m sure those fine humanitarians in the auto insurance industry will price Tesla coverage appropriately. Remember the headlines a few weeks ago about Cybertrucks supposedly being “uninsurable”?

You really should do a simple fact check or comparison search before you post faff like this. From merely 10 weeks ago:
_A study from vehicle history report firm EpicVIN has revealed a ranking of car brands with the lowest percentage of fatal injuries in reported accidents. Among the carmakers outlined in the study, **electric vehicle maker Tesla was dubbed as one of the ten least** likely car brands to be involved in fatal accidents._

The two studies were looking at different things. One was the number of accidents where there was a fatality per X miles driven. The other was the “percentage of fatal injuries compared to total occupants involved in fatal crashes.”

Per mile is the more important measure.
