The largest electric vehicle maker in the world, BYD, had a slow start to the year for various reasons, but it is popping now.
The company had 20.5% more passenger vehicle sales in July 2026 than in July 2025 (411,072 versus 341,030), and 3.5% more sales than the month prior (June 2026, 397,292).
In terms of pure battery-electric passenger vehicle sales, those rose 31% year over year (from 177,887 to 233,105) and 15.7% month over month (from 201,472 to 233,105).
As has been clear, the Chinese auto market has been down a lot this year, and that includes the EV market in the country. The good news is that BYD has quickly exported more and more sales abroad. That’s what’s driving the company’s vehicle sales growth.

Combining buses and non-bus commercial electric vehicle sales, BYD sold 8,139 units in July 2026, 31.7% more than in June 2026 (6,180 units) and 149.2% more than in July 2025 (3,266 units).
