The current Gov made the condition of roads in Michigan the lead issue of her first campaign. At the time she entered office, Michgan’s road funding per capita, was about half that of surrounding states.
The (L&Ses) in the Michigan House have passed a new bill to carry on with the increased funding that the current Gov started, but without paying any additional tax.
Currently, Michigan charges 6% sales tax on fuel, which, supposedly, goes to education funding.
Legislation passed by House lawmakers would replace the sales tax with an increase in the motor fuel tax from 31 cents per gallon to 51 cents,
OK, so that takes Millions away from education funding. Now what?
The ********* plan would backfill school funding impacted by removing the sales tax from fuel with $755 million redirected from the general fund
OK, so what gets defunded to make that $755M of general fund money available? That is a deep, dark, secret, as usual.
But wait! There’s more!
A separate bill in the road funding plan would also shift corporate income tax revenue currently earmarked this year for housing, placemaking and corporate subsidy funds to roads. In subsequent years, up to $2.2 billion in corporate income tax revenue would go to roads with the bulk of the funds supporting local road agencies.
OK, do they divert $2.2B, that is currently being used for something else. So, again, what gets defunded to make that $2.2B available? That, again, is a deep, dark, secret.
This guy gets it. What I have been saying about Michigan tax and spending schemes, for years.
“It is nothing more than a shell game,” state Rep. Stephen Wooden, -Grand Rapids, said of the road funding plan.
Meanwhile, the (L&Ses) are working on a state income tax cut, that would remove over $700M/year of revenue. How will they cover that shortfall?..deep, dark, secret.
