It’s more important to understand the actual reason for the war than to compare casualty counts. And if the objective of the war is accomplished then that is the main thing.
In this case, the primary objective of the war is to teach Russia, at least for a few generations, that reconstituting their Soviet empire is not going to happen, or certainly won’t happen easily. Right now it appears that they are slowly learning that lesson. And a side effect of the war is the degrading of Russian military capability and morale which will further reduce their impulses towards further war. Not only that, but the people of Russia for about a generation had a taste of western life, and once you get that taste, it is hard to shake the desire for it. So with any luck, once Russia gives up this folly, maybe the people of Russia will choose better leaders, and choose to remove bad leaders.
