This is good stuff 2026

Hi, Dreamer, long time no see!

How you doing?

After 2-3 years of having completely abandoned TMF, I’m back because my wife has started investing and she needs some help.

I waited all summer for “Lanterns” to come out, but I’m very disappointed with it.

By the way, I came across a really good book—a dystopia. It’s a bit challenging, though, because the author is South Korean, and it’s not exactly an easy read. There are quite a lot of robots in it.

welcome back and always appreciate book/audiobook suggestions!

Have heard similar on Lanterns and DC under John Gunn has largely underperformed thus far, which is unfortunate.

The good for me in 2026 (not a comprehensive list!)

Movies:
Odyssey was pretty good, but I did not get to see it in Imax, but my kids did and were impressed.
Waiting to see Spiderman and Resident Evil. Had hoped to see more movies in person, but something always seems to be going on.
Also saw Project Hail Mary and liked it…audiobook still better, but solid effort by movie though!
Saw Mandalorian and Grogu - was entertaining, but not a blockbuster SW movie I have come to expect.
Did see The Housemaid, I think in January if not late Dec, and what’s not to like about a good movie that also has Sydney Sweeney in it?!?!

Streaming movies
F1, Fantastic Four, Superman, Predator Badlands…all entertaining but not “great”.

Streaming series:
Stranger Things finale…blah. Like Lost, Heroes, and many other great series, it ended more with a whimper than a bang.
Boys final season - fairly decent. The whole show had ups and downs, but was a unique new IP and I appreciated it.
Star City (spinoff of For All Mankind) - I really enjoyed this one! Think alternate history of space travel, but from Russian perspective.
House of Dragon season 3 and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms were both great!
Lioness (I haven’t finished yet, but strong start to latest season).
Sugar - odd noir type feel mixed with scifi. But entertaining.
Vampire Lestat - I was a HUGE Anne Rice novel fan in the 90s…so this was a bit of a nolstagia trip. It is modernized yet still felt largely true to the books.
Dutton Ranch was pretty good, albeit a step below Yellowstone at its peak.

Like I said, not a full list.
Currently focused on Bears season and their pursuit of the NFL scoring record!

Audiobooks:
Vicious by VE Schwab - new series…novel ideas and well narrated.
Apollo Murders by Chris Hadfield was interesting alt space history thriller.
The Noob Series by Ryan Rimmel continue to crack me up.
A Parade of Horribles - continuation of great Dungeon Crawler Carl series
Champions of Nowhere - basketball mashed with Stephen King-esque horror vibes? A win!
Breeds 4 was a nice read and a bounceback from book 3 with all new characters/story.
Queued up: The Infinite Extent, book 6 of the Bobiverse

all the best out there!

This is a really good list, it will take me some time to select what`s in it for me.

Nevertheles, I got for you 3 TV shows that I notice you don’t mention at all, even though I consider them A MUST: Slow Horses (on Apple TV+ with Gary Oldman, the 6th season has started two days ago), Mobland (with Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan on Paramount+, the second season starts today) and The Gentlemen (not as good as the movie, but still a Guy Ritchie thing).

F1 is one of the best movies of recent years, I’ve watched it at least three times. Project Hail Mary was too commercial — sci-fi for the masses. I could barely finish the book, and the movie didn’t come close to The Martian.

The Dutton Ranch was good until the last two episodes, where it became extremely pathetic and difficult to watch. Yellowstone was much better.

I good one I’ve seen in the past few weeks was The Invite (with Seth Rogen and Edward Norton)

Have a good weekend!

have mentioned Slow Horses in previous “Good Stuff” threads…agree and like it a lot! Gary Oldham is good in everything he does.

Mobland was solid…great cast. Feel like maybe they try just a bit too hard to make some things silly/unbelievable contrasted with Tom Hardy keeping it grounded in reality.

The Gentlemen is also good…but the Duke has almost a mary jane quality it seems…too smart/perfect and everything works out for him. (only a couple episodes in to the 2nd season though).

Opted not to see new Resident Evil movie (or Coyote vs Acme) to stay in and watch the Bears…ugh. Mistake. Oh well…hopefully will see them soon!
