According to Google’s AI thingy, the tomato content of catsup is on a par with the meat content in “British sausage”.
*The tomato content in ketchup typically ranges from 25% to 33%, with variations depending on the brand and specific product. Some premium or “fancy” ketchups may have a higher percentage, while others may have less. For example, some products may list tomato paste as the primary ingredient , while others may have sugar as a larger component
…because adulterated food is a “traditional American family value”

I just bought my first locally raised tomatoes last week. 25 lb for $20 or $0.80/lb. Last year i was 30 lb for $20 or $0.67/lb. So prices are up abt 20%.
This for No. 2 canning tomatoes. Very tasty. But early season varieties. In St. Louis main season goes from late July to mid September.
Yeah me too, pulling 4 row barley from 2 row and 6 row research fields next to Anheuser-Busch. Fun times. I can’t imagine many wonderbreads wanting to do that sort of work, no matter the pay.
Except that, despite publicity to the contrary, actual figures are lagging behind -NBC:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents last month arrested the most people in at least five years, but deportations are still lagging far behind what President Donald Trump has promised — and even behind those in the Obama administration, according to data obtained by NBC News.
It’s all about the show. Having lots of pix on the “news” of brown people being rousted, pleases the base.
St Louis made the “news” last night. Reportedly, the city has suffered a significant loss of population, in recent years, as people move to the 'burbs. The city has been recruiting Afghan refugees to supplement the population. But now, “himself” is revoking their protected status, so they will be subject to deportation.

I much prefer the way they package Tropicana OJ than the way they package some other items. The Tropicana OJ comes in a pack of three 48oz plastic bottles, so you can open one at a time. But other things, like their mayo comes in a gigantic tub of 48 oz that is just too round to fit in a typical fridge door shelf, and will take a long time to complete (sometimes they have the 30 oz mayo in a 2x pack so I buy those instead).
Probably 2 things. One - about 4 years ago Washington had a surge in mildew and other diseases so knocks out production and trees. Didn’t seem to affect Michigan and other apple producing states. Two - red delicious is passe. Our grocery store carries about 8-10 different varieties with very little space given to red delicious. Seems variations of the honey crisp is what is driving the market right now.
That’s nuts. But then, somehow, women were convinced looking like a cross between a clown and a football player was attractive too.

“Tomatoe prices going up”
What most people don’t know (or don’t remember) is that Quayle was looking at a flash card provided by the school that had the “correct” answer on it, spelled incorrectly. So, yes, Quayle did mess up—but so did the school.
DB2
And Quayle didn’t know better. He had a pretty solid record for having the IQ of a potholder.
Steve
Re: Quayle
That was media playing with him. Both spellings are correct and both were shown on the card but -oe is less common.
Media made it a story.
But at least it seems he had a grasp of the role of the VP when it came to a couple of official duties…

Re: St Louis
This is not new. Population of the city has been in decline for decades. Mostly due to white flight and poor schools. We have a large Bosnian population that does well here.
Most recent event is major tornado damage in the heart of the traditional African American community. Many there for generations and without insurance. Politicians want to maintain the political base and not see them move. State just voted recovery funds. We shall see.
St Louis city separated from St Louis County in 1876 when county was mostly rural. County continues to grow. People talk of merger to better fund city services but county will out vote city three to one. Not likely to please city voters. Would like tax income but still control it.
I understand that tastes vary, but red delicious is a terrible apple. I do not mourn its disappearance.
Red delicious apples are good when picked, but they get soft and mealy quickly, which does not work well when picked and shipped long distances before they make to the store bins.
It’s not what is on the outside that matters, it is what is in the inside. That is apropos when it comes to apples and people.
What some people don’t realize is what the plural of Tomato is?
Excuse these, if you can.
“The global importance of the Middle East is that it keeps the Far East and the Near East from encroaching on each other.”
“I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret that I have is that I didn’t study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people.”
oohh! one economically relevant to this board!!!
“Bank failures are caused by depositors who don’t deposit enough money to cover losses due to mismanagement.”

That guy is wrong. While Michigan apples tend to be smaller and dryer than the Washington variety, which went extinct in the store about 3 years ago, the Michigan apples were so sweet and juicy last year, that, if they were any better, the person eating them would be reduced to an orgasmic stupor.
