Oh goody. Another redundant contract. The two 74s that Boeing has been putzing around with, for years, were whitetails that were built for a Russian airline that went BK before they were delivered.
So, now, the Air Force buys another whitetail, and L3 gets a contract to duplicate all the work Boeing has been milking all these years? So, how much of a “donation” did the honchos at L3 pay?
Trump negotiated a fixed price contract on the two AF1 replacements shortly after taking office in 2017. To date, Boeing has lost over $2 Billion on the contract after Trumps’s deal making.
The contract started out as the usual guaranteed profit “cost plus”, which TIG converted to fixed cost. TIG did the same with the Air Force tanker contract with BA. BA has been crying it’s losing it’s shirt on both contracts, ever since. Notice that even fixed price contracts did not motivate Boeing to get it’s poo in a group, and get the job done.
I’m sure the “JCs” at Boeing have plenty of excuses. Failures are never, ever, the fault of management. As the “big three” always cry, it’s always, always, the fault of the government, or the union, or the Japanese.
