The Dems miscalculated that the House couldn’t pass a CR. Johnson managed to, and that put the Senate D’s in the box they’re in.

The Dems were in the box when they lost the presidency and both houses of congress. The only thing they can do is obstruct, which is a very dangerous game to play (see Newt Gingrich).

Plus, in this case, I happen to think a shutdown would be better than handing over the keys, car, and a full tank of gas to your opponent.

Why? Keep your eye on the prize, which in this case are the midterm elections. If the trumplicans are mismanaging the country as we all believe, they will lose the midterms. That’s when the democrats will have leverage.

Think back to 2023. The R’s now have a smaller majority than they did then. The D’s assumed (incorrectly) that the situation would play out as it did then, and that the R’s wouldn’t be able to pass a CR without D votes.

I think continuing the government is good. The stock market also thought it was good today.

Also, the Dems were in the minority to start with and are now split into factions. Hard to see how that doesn’t help the GOP.
