When a company is hiring, it usually bodes well for investors. It may mean it is expanding its services, offers new ones or perhaps adds new locations to its business. It could also mean the company is hiring technology experts to train staff and new employees. A current example would be the hiring of security experts to combat the documented rise in ransomware during COVID-19 or prevent network traffic to be hijacked*, both even more acute dangers when companies allow their employees to work from home using their home networks and often their own devices. Non-company networks and devices are only as secure as the employee keeps them–the company’s chief security officer (CSO) has no direct control over any of it.
Excellent point IM. Thanks for putting this post together, but for me the numbers don’t really mean anything out of context. I don’t care how much the raw numbers are, but rather how they fit into the whole. So I have added the total employee numbers and figured out what percentage your numbers represent.
A tiny bit of background.
- I got my numbers from the Profile tab on Yahoo! Finance. I don’t know when or how the numbers were compiled, so just keep that in mind when seeing what I have come up with.
- Some of the companies showed two numbers. Like OKTA indicated 200 and 143. In that case I took the higher number, which shouldn’t matter too much. The exception would be MongoDB which both 161 and 600 which is a pretty significant difference.
- Don’t use any of this for decision making! If something you see is interesting just ping Investor Relations at the relevant company for the most accurate story both on job listings and total employees.
