Welcome to the board. I appreciate your desire to hit the ground running, and get up to speed in short order. However, the value here is that we go pretty deep on the companies that pique our collective interest. This can make it hard for those new to the board to

If you’ll allow me, I’d like to make a few suggestions:

  1. There’s no substitute for time. Give yourself a few weeks. Reading all the new posts for a while will get you up to speed on the discussions here, and how they usually go.

  2. To jump-start your familiarity with the board, go back and read the posts with more than 10 rec’s from the last several weeks. Maybe all of 2019. This above anything else will give you an idea of what we’ve been up to.

  3. Read the links on the side panel (more than once).

  4. Crucial! Pick one company and learn all you can about it, and write it up in a deep dive post. That’s the first thing I did on the board that really took my experience to the next level. Because it’s so valuable, I humbly request that you do this first – before trying to add value with new threads about other things like screeners or methods etc. You’ll get a lot more responses once you’re used to how things work here.

(Also, Tom, there’s no perfect screen, but yours looks very good. But rather than try to start a conversation about the screening process (which we have discussed in the past and don’t really want to do again), please pick one of the companies that interests you and write it up in a deep dive post.)

I remember being new to the board. Maybe you’ll catch up faster than I did, but it will still take some time. Until then, read, enjoy, and learn! Can’t wait to see what company each of you choose to dive into!

Thanks,
Bear

Well that was weird. Apparently I deleted a word at the end of the first paragraph. Meant to say:

This can make it hard for those new to the board to acclimate.

I think the screen would be a good intro to the deep dive. For example, “I discovered ABCD stock through X Screen/Method,” and follow that with the deep dive. I would welcome any new idea generation method that passes scrutiny.
