I listed my 20-year-old Nissan Altima for $4,000 on Autotrader last night about 10 PM.

It was sold before noon today.

There is huge demand for used cars at almost all price levels, and the demand is strongest in the $3000-$15000 segments.

The dealers LOVE trade-ins like yours. They pay you $850, then they check the car out a bit, maybe do some quick maintenance and polish it up (sometimes this step is even skipped for older cars), then they sell it at auction for $2000, a used car dealer gets it at auction for $2400 (assuming 20% “spread” at auction) and sells it for $3k+ as quickly as possible.
