The shares of Citibank has moved up from $38 in October Low’s to $58, that is 52% gain. Anyways, if the trend continues there is a chance Citi hits $70 by the end of the year.
So I bought $70 Jan call and sold $75 Jan Call for $.84 debit, to finance this, I have also sold $40 put for $.72, net, net it cost me $240, if the stock is above $75, that would be $10K profit, and as long as stock closes above $40, my total loss is $240 but the commissions.
We have a long way to go… As of today, $860 on unrealized profits. Just to provide some context behind this trade, so you have seen how quickly in the past Citi has moved up and hit the $80. Even today’s price is a significant discount to the TBV. If Citi can start the buyback, my original thesis comes into play.
On today’s move I closed the call spread, for $1.25. For a total gain of $1960. I could have closed the call spread at slightly better price and let the put expire worthless. However, I am winding down many position and booking gains (which is bad ). Trying to clean up the portfolio for 2025.
