Alteryx pricing

A while back the CEO of Alteryx was asked if they think their product is too expensive. He said something along the lines of, “if anything we are too cheap” I’m relatively certain that when I started following AYX a seat of Alteryx designer was like 3800 bucks. THis much have been in December 2017 or so. I had checked a while back and a seat was in the mid 4k range. Now it is 5195. Does anyone have more reliable numbers than those from my memory?

(from memory)

2017 3800
2018 4500
Current 5195

Using these admittedly inaccurate numbers you get approximately a 15% price increase. THeir NER (net expansion rate) is around 30% so approximately half of their NER is from price increases and half from increase seats/product buys. Take all this with a giant grain of salt since my memory is faulty.

AYX obviously has pricing power…evidence of a good moat!

As far as I can see, it appears it’s always been $5195. Here’s an article from April 2018:

and one from June 2017:

I think I found the source of my confusion. I was poorly remembering the cost of a discounted 3 year designer license which has since been mostly phased out.

This article from 2018 lists the 3 year plan as costing 4k per user

This post by someone at AYX seems to clear it up. Apparently, Alteryx use to offer a discount for a 3-year designer license, 4k instead of 5195. They have since phased that large discount out and now if you ask you can get up to around 5% off which would put the cost around 4900 dollars.

Long and short of it. 3 year subscriptions have gotten more expensive. Use to be 4k per use per year, now are in the neighborhood of 4900 dollars per user per year.

I have zero idea how many people buy 3-year licenses vs 1-year. WIthout that information I can’t make any good inferences about the NER other than much more than half is coming from additional seats and upsells.

bear, thanks for finding that stuff and prompting me to look deeper.
