Amazon Prime and returns

Amazon Prime is a great convenience for someone who lives in the boonies. The price of Amazon Prime has been rising but it works for me because of the free shipping and availability of so many items that aren’t available locally.

I just bought a new mattress (direct from a family-owned business in Brooklyn). I ordered a mattress pad ($17) from Amazon but changed my mind and decided to order a thicker one. I didn’t open the box. I figured I’d just return it.

When I reported that I wanted to return the pad in an unopened box because I changed my mind, Amazon refunded my money but told me I shouldn’t return it. I guess that the cost of shipping and dealing with the returned product is higher than the original cost.

This is a system that unscrupulous people could abuse. No wonder the price of Amazon Prime is rising.

Caracas became the boonies when Chavez took over. Amazon and Mailboxes etc. to the rescue.

I asked a couple of guys with nice beards I met on the street whether it was the new style or the lack of razors. :winking_face_with_tongue:

PS: Years ago I tried to grow a beard which was a total failure, I looked like an aging rabbi.

As far as I know, Amazon bears no costs associated with returns or handling products for merchants after sale.

These fees are deducted from the original transaction. If the merchant would not like to deal with RTS items, they waive the return.

I have seen hundreds (HUNDREDS) of items refunded without return. These single sticker packages contain little more than adhesive, paper - and ink.

Processing a return might cost more than it’s worth. Also, the seller might suffer the loss. One would need to know the details.

We’ve been withPrime for ages now, rare any issues, but..

Bought a Backup Camera fr my tow rig, '06 F150, seemed to work OK here at home, until the time came to use it to hitch up the RV. It wouldn’t stay connected, 5 feet away, and it wouldn’t focus up close to the hitch from the tailgate, so I could see where the two parts were to meet up! I was past the return date, but still tried, the Seller stepped up, gave me a full refund as long as I changed the negative, really negative, review I’dpup up on Amazon, Oh, and don’t return it, not worth the shipping to either of us… So it’s in the electronics recycle bin…

Otherwise no problem as far as returns, I think some socks that were too small, refunded, no return… The return bins where we take stuff, as I understand, go to a reseller, not back into Amazon stocks… Just have to watch the return closure dates…

So many handy things at a click or two away, needed a 12v jumpstarter, because I can’t find the one I had, be here today… Even if I find the older one, I’ll keep the 2nd as a backup… (Don’t drive the F150 enough to keep the battery up.)

The range of ‘stuff’ is pretty awesome, local shops can’t begin to stock the variety available…

I ordered a pair of shoes a few months ago. For some reason they shipped the order twice. I was billed for only one order. I informed them of the mistake. They said keep the extra order. No charge.
