That’s interesting, but wouldn’t you think that if LVAD’s could really replace heart transplants with a much cheaper implantable device at a tenth the cost, and with a much, much, milder surgery, they would have done so already, there wouldn’t have been any heart transplants done last year, and there wouldn’t be any waiting list for heart transplants? Perhaps it isn’t as much of a threat as all that, and perhaps it’s only suitable for a small subset.

Untill recently, they merely acted as a temporary bridge to keep the patient alive until a transplant could be arranged. With improvements in the technology, they may actually become a preferred alternative.
