End of August 2021 Summary of Summaries:

I have found the end of month summaries from the board heavyweights to be an invaluable resource and have enjoyed seeing the wisdom from Saul’s Knowledgebase constantly applied (lessons learned and/or re-learned). The summaries show the value of crowd-sourcing ideas but also independent thought. I catalog the summaries each month and have found the data I’ve gleaned to be very helpful in analyzing my portfolio and forming my own convictions. Hopefully, some will find this data helpful. It is meant to ask questions like:

  • Why do I own a stock that no one else owns (opportunity cost)?
  • Why do I have 40% of my portfolio in a stock when no one else does (should I trim my position)?
  • Why do I own so many or so few stocks (portfolio concentration)?
  • Why don’t I own a stock that is heavily owned by the group (did I miss an important thread)?
  • Members of the group have started buying a new stock. Should I start a position?

Hi swood1963,
Thanks for posting this - I agree that these summaries are valuable. I’ve created a similar summary-of-summaries about a year ago and have been updating it monthly, as my way to give back to the board. (also added some additional information on each company such as growth rate, price change, GM, market cap.)

There are also some historical data from previous years, to see how the board’s companies have performed in retrospect. (see the post https://discussion.fool.com/november-portfolios-summary-34687404… )

However, Saul specifically asked not to post anything like this anymore, since it is against the board’s rules - there is no discussion of specific companies, and it encourages following what others do (a “herd mentality”) instead of each person doing their own research on each company, which is what Saul is trying to educate to. (However, I agree that it is a useful starting point to finding interesting companies, and knowing which end-of-month summary to look at for more info - that’s why I’ve kept updating it, but without writing about it on this board.)

Thank you two for aggregating in an easy to find format what is readily available in a more complicated and time-consuming fashion. I am relatively new but don’t understand how this could be against the rules when the posts from these “board heavyweights” about their monthly statistics, and discussing the stock positions they have, is permitted. Perhaps it has to do with who is deemed a “board heavyweight”? Perhaps it is also the additional statistics provided in your posts? Maybe if just the aggregated lists of the links to members’ posted monthly statistics would suffice, and without any other comments would get past the rules?

There’s really no need to be guessing — here we discuss individual growth stocks and do not post aggregated list of stocks.

The monhtly portfolio updates are different because the posters actually explain why they hold what they hold.

Please comply with the rules so we don’t end up burying valuable information in clutter.

It’s as simple as that.
