Casters set into wood present a challenge I haven’t faced.
I’ve replaced the wheels on two office chairs and the first thing I learned was that matching the stem is the place to start. And I mean match exactly. Mine had a sort of split ring in a groove that held them in, and of course the diameter had to match.
When I moved into my new place I was worried about damaging the hardwood floors. The casters I bought are gray, not black, and are supposed to be easy on hardwood. I still added floor protectors, though I often roll a wheel or two off onto the bare floor.
I just found my order, and the casters I bought, with what they describe as Thermoplastic Rubber Wheels.
