From Grok.
The statement that China added 93 gigawatts of solar capacity in May 2025 is supported by several sources, primarily citing data from China’s National Energy Administration (NEA). Below are the key sources that report this figure:
- OilPrice.com (Published June 23, 2025): Reports that China installed 93 GW of solar capacity in May, surpassing its previous record of 71 GW in December 2024, based on data from the NEA cited by Bloomberg. It notes that this was driven by a rush to complete projects before new policies effective June 1, 2025, removed pricing protections.
- Bloomberg (Published June 23, 2025): States that China installed 93 GW of solar panels in May, four times more than the same period in 2024, according to NEA data. This set a new monthly record, exceeding the total 2024 solar installations of any other country, per BloombergNEF estimates.
- Wikipedia - Solar Power in China (Published January 22, 2025): Notes that China set a monthly record of 93 GW of new solar capacity in May 2025, as producers rushed to access subsidies ending by June 2025, citing NEA data.
- Saur Energy International (Published June 24, 2025): Confirms China installed 93 GW of solar power capacity in May 2025, the highest monthly figure on record, based on NEA data. It highlights a 105.48% increase from April and attributes the surge to policy changes.
- Sustainability Times (Published July 1, 2025): Reports that China installed 93 GW of solar capacity in May, equating to nearly 100 solar panels per second, citing NEA data.
- The Guardian (Published June 26, 2025): States China installed 93 GW of solar capacity in May, referencing an analysis by Lauri Myllyvirta of the Asia Society Policy Institute, based on NEA data.

Unfortunately I was not able to translate it from Mandarin.
The rate that China is adding solar power is amazing. When you start comparing it to SMR’s or other power it seems like an impossible task to keep up.
For different context, 93 gigawatts is a 3 percent increase from 2024. I do not know if the May number is sustainable, but if it is, then China could have almost 30 percent more power by the end of 2025, all solar.
While the power from Solar must be depreciated as Solar is only available sometimes, so a solar plus battery installation with a 1 GIga watt capacity might only be equivalent to .25 Gigawatts of coal, maybe less. Still, that is a lot of power being added fast.
Even with this dramatic increase in solar, and with Battery electric and Plug in hybrids reaching 50 percent of new vehicle sales in China.

Oil Price dot com is reporting increasing oil imports into China.
You would think that with a failing economy and more BEV’s on the road that China would slow imports of oil.
