$21K! BYD’s new electric crossover comes with over ten ADAS features like Lane Departure and Automatic Emergency Braking with DiPliot.
323 mile range.
BYD is upping the ante as it looks to build momentum into the second half of 2024. The new Song Plus is the latest in BYD’s electric vehicle launch spree as it continues stealing market share from gas-powered cars.
Starting at $21,000 (149,800 yuan), BYD’s new Song Plus undercuts other electric crossovers, including Tesla’s best-selling Model Y, which starts at 249,900 yuan, or around $30,500. However, it also undercuts most gas and hybrid models in its class, which are already losing market share in China.
With many new lower priced EVs entering China market space; it will be interesting to see if Tesla can maintain its market share.
There has been a lot of chatter by youtube talking heads recently, about BYD officers touring the Chrysler HQ building in Auburn Hills, and plants in Bramption and Winsor, Ontario.
What crosses my mind is that GM and Ford don’t want to compete with BYD. So they will ring up their bought dogs in Congress, to block a BYD purchase of any US auto production assets, on “national security” grounds. Think of it as “Dubai Ports 2.0”
Meanwhile, those same bought dogs in Congress are moving to outlaw Chinese automotive software. Can’t build BYD cars in North America, without BYD software, can you?
