China says they are ready for War

Dang I thought these guys were supposed to be Pacifists. They better not mess this up.

“If war is what the U.S. wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end,” Chinese Embassy in the U.S. said in a post on X on Wednesday, signaling an increasingly aggressive stance toward the U.S.

Meanwhile, tho Canadian oil is only being tariffed at 10%, Mexican crude is being tariffed at 25%. Mexico is pivoting to finding new customers.

There was an article on the wire today that said these tariffs are the greatest graft opportunity ever: exemptions from tariffs can be bought.

Are we for or against government picking winners and losers?

I guess now we are for.

Free market? Not so much.

Once those in the highest levels of government start accepting “tips” for granting tariff exceptions, those in government positions are the only winners.

Don’t worry the Mexican and Canadian retaliatory tariffs are implemented without second thoughts.

Mexico needs to pivot to finding new oil.

Yup. $5M to dine with the president alone at Mar a Lago, $1M in a group setting. The corruption is off the charts in this administration, and his cult still thinks he is draining the swamp.

Could be riling their people up to take Taiwan.

No. If they are smart they would slow oil and instead increase other industries such as auto manufacturing and other value-added manufacturing. Long-term that’s the far better way to go (it’s better to be in varied manufacturing, and possibly move up the product value chain, than to be in the lowest level of a commodity business).

Bingo on what MarkR wrote. Not coincidentally, that is what the recently sworn in new President of Mexico is pushing — abstenence from oil exploration, an intensive push forward in manufacturing, and doing that with concomitat

extension and modernization of the essential but now mostly antique transportation network,
renovation and intensification of education
