No cell? OMG, ‘bout time you got in the 21st century, brother!
Just for the record, I’ve never used an ATM. Ever.
If you don’t try to travel by air, you don’t need to navigate the air travel bureaucracy. ![]()
This is as bureaucratic as travel by Gooney Bird gets.
You never had an account at a money-grubbing bank, that charges for using a human teller? Much of my working life, using the lobby of a bank was out of the question, because I was always at work during “banker’s hours”. I remember when I had to give up and got an ATM card, around 87.
I rarely use an ATM anymore, but the last time I used one (~2 years ago?) was quite a unique experience. I used the bank app in my car near the ATM, then I used the bank app to authenticate myself, then I used the bank app to specify amount to withdraw, and then it gave me a 6 digit code on my screen. I entered that 6-digit code on the ATM, and the ATM spat out the amount of cash I specified. No card needed at all!
Studies show you will live 1.578 years longer if you do not use an ATM.
Well done!!

Last time I was in China was late 2019, mostly had to have my local friend pay everything as few places took cash… (actually in Jan 2020 as well for 1 day but quickly turned around and left as lockdowns started to happen)
That is happening more often here (Singapore), most places still take cash but I do run into some businesses that won’t accept cash and often credit cards. So direct bank payment through a banking app. I think ATM will go become a thing of the past like Cell phones as countries go more cashless. Still a while but the trend.
I haven’t had a landline in 20 years and don’t think I know anyone with one now over here unless part of a bundle internet service, so it isn’t POTS.
You had to lug around the phone, instead of the much smaller and lighter card. It would be an interesting race. You working the “app” on your heavy, bulky, phone, while I saunter up to the ATM, stuff in the card, punch about 7 buttons, take my cash and leave.

I always carry my phone. For one, it is my car key (and it allows me to heat/cool my car before heading out). It is the “card” that allows me into my gym. It is my bank card. It is my 10+ credit cards. It is my boarding pass for flights. It is my notebook (and they instantly appear on my computer as well, and I can easily share them when necessary*). It keeps track of my blood pressure (and will even share the data with my doc). It is my camera. It is a full set of maps when I go places/drive. It is my address/phone book. It is my audio player. It is my stock quote machine. I control my thermostat with it, even while away from home. Oh, and it’s also my telephone. Etc. Much MUCH smaller than carrying around all that stuff.
* Most recently when my niece got engaged, we made a party and used shared notes to arrange it, who brings what, who prepares what, etc. Without that capability, it would have been a mess of long phone calls and little pieces of error-prone paper with notes and cross outs for changes.
I had to laff at my coworkers. They would buy the biggest SUV they could possibly make the payments on. Then use the remote start to run the thing in the parking lot for 10-15 minutes so the interior is suitably heated/cooled for their tender backside, then they cry a river about how much they pay for gas.

OK. I use an ATM relatively often. Mrs. Goofy uses cash at the nail place because the owner doesn’t like paying the skim. I rarely use it, except yesterday when I needed $1700 to buy a (used) electric riding mower.
I don’t know of any banks around here that charge you to see a teller.
I don’t know of any businesses around here that don’t take cash.
Then again, I live in Tennessee, where it’s 1957 mostly.
Oh, that is really terrible news. Have you seen any stray dogs crossing your path?
I am going to stop driving. My survival rate might increase by .004 years if I learn to harvest my own crops.
Nope. If they did, I’d find a new bank.
In fact, we recently had to stop payment on a check and the bank charged us $35. I went in and requested the charge be reversed because of our long term relationship with the bank. They agreed.
With my luck, I’ve already used up 1.577 years of it.
Alphawolves must leave the pack at .001 hours.

Going to the teller? Writing Checks? Seems like madness
Hey @steve203 ,
I’ve been following this board long enough that I know you get out and do things on the weekends.
I was just bustin’ ya.

→ no harm intended.
Maybe if you smoked them ???
Now we are talking about either imaginary numbers or negative numbers.
If you harvest and smoke the right crop, you could have it all < g >.
