This will dramatically reduce competition and allow real estate agents to maintain their high commission structures. Small and independent brokerages will be hard pressed to compete as the new larger Compass Real Estate increasingly keeps listings in-house, and out of the MLS.
While I benefited immensely from the high brokerage commission skim over my commercial real estate career, this is a merger that shouldn’t be allowed. Although I doubt the current political climate will block it, presuming the appropriate fealty is paid by Compass.
