Consumer Spending Pushes US economy up 4.4% in 3rd Quarter, Fastest in 2 Years

My goodness! Those tariffs are like manna from Heaven! What’s this conversation I’m hearing from non-right-wing talk sources about a possible Blue Wave? Runaway inflation? Massive unemployment? Or is this a last gasp spending sploodge by consumers as they throw their last dollar to the wind? (People don’t do that. If they really think Tout est bien fini they stop spending, so they must think there’s more where that came from.) I can’t figure it out. Is there an opposite of Pyrrhic Victory?

Or maybe… from the article: Powered by strong consumer spending, the U.S. economy grew at the fastest pace in two years from July through September, the government said Thursday in a slight upgrade of its first estimate.

Ya know, like Gubmints say alotta things.

Those that are rich don’t mind inflation. We grew our net worth by trillions last year. Of course our spending is up. What’s not to like?

By contrast, the bottom 80% saw their spending increase at a rate far less than their income/wealth (especially the bottom 40%). No wonder they are less than excited. The plurality of Consumer Spending (38%) is from the top 20%.

The GDP growth of 4.4% is inflation adjusted.

Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 4.4 percent in the third quarter of 2025 (July, August, and September), according to the updated estimate released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
