They’ve made the calculation that prioritizing low taxes for the wealthy is worth the cost of the extra deaths. And poor people keep voting for them, so they’re right.

From a cold-blooded economic standpoint, shutting down the economy in 2019 was a mistake. Who died? The elderly and middle-aged people with pre-existing health conditions. Children and healthy working-age adults had very low mortality.
The majority of the U.S. population (including us) live in areas with rare but potentially catastrophic events. It would be very expensive to reduce the risk in all of them.

He is dead so I would say both.
I watched video of the Texas flood, and the New Mexico flood. It is negligence to not have a robust public alert system in place, in both locations. That water rose so fast, and was so powerful, and it is not the first time it’s happened. The adults in charge of both State’s should have their feet held to a bonfire. The kids are collateral damage, dead because the adults in charge are greedy, narcissistic, power hungry fools who really don’t care that those kids died. But, it wasn’t their kids, right ?..
But you get what you vote for. Hopefully the rest of the Country has paid attention, because this is coming to a lot of places, disaster of a type that is unique to the different areas of the Country. Don’t expect any help from the Government, especially this regime, but do expect every excuse under the sun, and thoughts and prayers, can’t forget the thoughts and prayers.
