The real “Replicators” usually looked like crawling insects, composed of metal blocks. If you hit them with a bullet, they would shatter, but the blocks would immediately reassemble, and come after you again. Energy weapons were useless against them. Replicators would use any metallic material they found, to make more Replicators.
