Ford has been “struggling” in the EU, and China, and South America, and India, for years.
Ford’s EU market share has fallen from 10-12% at the turn of the century to 5.3% in 2022.
Ford’s share in China peaked out at 3.77% in 2016. Their share had fallen to 1.06% by 2022.
Ford exited South America and India entirely a couple years ago. Ford has recently announced it will reopen it’s plant in Chennai, but only to produce for export, not sale in India.
When a company broadly fails to compete effectively, it shrinks.

ICE is receding.

Any probable resurgence in F and GM will be manufacturing in the US/Mexico/Canada. The Germans are losing ground as well with German manufacturing.
Ford has had the same opportunities as anyone else. Some years ago, Ford licensed VW’s EV platform, rather than paying to develop their own. Ford is still broadly failing everywhere in the world except in North America.

A cousin in LA was super happy with his Ford Taurus but that was almost four decades ago.

They make the best “failures” in the world.
BYD, Nio, and other Chinese brands look pretty good.
Mahindra (India) is also rated decently.
I don’t know how warranties compare in China and India. Ford’s only significant presence these days is in the EU, UK, and NA, where warranties are halfway decent, and enforceable. Stellantis is probably most comparable to Ford in markets served.
