Ford Motor CEO: competition is a threat!

Ford should know they can’t compete with the Chinese automakers. Ford has failed miserably to compete in China. With a “level playing field”, the Chinese would clobber Ford in the US, the same way the Japanese and Korean companies have taken market share away from all of the “big three”.

That depends on economies of scale.

We just went through a period with our tax structure encouraging the offshoring of our factory production. That period was from 1981 to 2020.

In other words for the adult period of the baby boomers we on the group level voted for our failure as a nation.

Okay boomer.

There is only one company (American) positioned to succeed in the US and China.

Tesla’s sales in China during August 2024 were robust, with the company achieving its best sales month of the year by selling 63,456 vehicles domestically and an additional 23,241 for export, totaling 86,697 vehicles. This performance indicates a strong demand for Tesla’s vehicles in China, despite being down 1.9% year-over-year (YoY) in domestic sales for August.

Even though EV sales in China were up 30% year-over-year, with BEV sales alone up more than 8% year-over-year? I wouldn’t call having your sales fall, while the rest of the market is growing, as evidence of “strong demand.” Better than the other Western automakers, but not exactly “strong.”

I’ve been saying that for a long time. As a resident of Michigan, the aftereffects of the PATCO strike kind of blew my mind. As in, no aftereffects for the CIC who busted PATCO, in a pro Union State.

Companies like Apple and NVidia don’t want anything to do with manufacturing in US.

Unions and strikes drive away investors and kill innovation.
