Future Fuels: Ground work for ship fueling

Prior discussion was Methanol vs Ammonia

This one is on delivery of Ammonia to the vessel.
The test case is a retrofitted tug-boat and delivery by truck

Don’t think this model will scale too well. For a massive dual fuel container vessel, seems like it would be truck multiples and managing refueling logistics might be challenging.

I think this is a discussion of how to handle new fuels in the trial stage.

How does diesel fuel reach ships in modern ports? Probably from pipelines maybe with storage tanks as a backup.

If ammonia or methanol is chosen those facilities will need to be duplicated for the new fuel around the globe. Infrastructure investment will be needed.

@pauleckler - to my knowledge, much of larger vessel refueling takes place via bunkering vessel/barge. I know for tankers, there are some preferred destinations to refuel.

Maverick shipping guy Peter Georgiopoulos even had a company focus on this niche sector in shipping. Then messed it up. Aegean Marine Network went into bankruptcy protection, and reorganized as Minerva Bunkering
