Prior to recent changes, specifically concerning the ability to alter municipal election dates without voter approval, Miami-Dade County law (specifically, the Miami-Dade County Charter) required voter approval for any changes to municipal election dates or term lengths .
In essence, before the recent legal challenges and interpretations, Miami-Dade County election law required a direct vote by the electorate to change election dates. This differed from the ability of the City of Miami Commissioners to attempt to make such a change without voter approval. This difference became a central point of legal conflict.
The Coral Gables issue is being sent to the courts also. So the argument of they did it so I can do it also is not valid. So now that we know that it is against the law to make these changes without voter approval, how do you feel about it now? I want to point out that only 3 people made this decision.
Exactly, it’s only logical. Even if there wasn’t any law. We should never allow 3 people to make laws that affect everyone, while enriching themselves, to take effect. That would be a conflict of interest. I think we, as a nation, have lost that principle. It should be brought back. Integrity. You know the people that have it and you know the people that don’t. It’s obvious. So why support anyone that does not have it? As Warren Buffett said * Integrity is a choice: While other qualities may be inherent or developed through learning, integrity is a conscious decision. You choose to be honest, trustworthy, and ethical.
Totally agree. If it makes sense to change it, simply set the date for the change in the future after all the current members have stood for re-election.
Florida’s government is corrupt. Disney didn’t support DeSantis’ hate legislative agenda so he used the government to attack them financially.
I don’t follow you. Florida law says that general elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of every even-numbered year.
You mean like local elections are in Florida law? Yet Coral Gables and Dade county are going against those laws. You even stated that you thought there was no law because coral gables and dade county were not abiding by it. How many people are thinking like you? I think we all need to go back to civics class and take a brush up course. ( I am really trying hard not to be sarcastic, all of this should just be common logic, it’s like telling the cop you didn’t know that drinking and driving was illegal as you blow a 2.5)
