So are you envisioning jamming the rope in the old crimp, and then using the cable clip clamp over the crimp to crimp it more?

I’m thinking to take the free end of the rope, bend it in half such that a loop is formed when the 2 sections of rope are side by side. Then take an appropriate sized clip to clamp the sections to each other. You now have a loop to work with to connect your rope to whatever support you were originally using. Having a loop gives you options if you need to connect something to make it longer. The illustrations at the link show the end result of what I’m trying to describe.
