Walmart isn’t the only big-box retailer dealing with an uptick in theft. Last month, Target Chief Financial Officer Michael Fiddelke said shoplifting has jumped about 50% year over and year, leading to more than $400 million in losses in this fiscal year alone.

I give media reports like that a lot of skepticism. The media seeks out people who will complain for their camera. Every time the price of gas goes up, the media is right on it, feeding the hysteria, interviewing people who drive huge SUVs, and have their cry about the burden of paying for gas.

I think I commented on another thread recently, as often as not, lately, the media has reported on the falling price, but, with the next breath, starts shrieking “prices could go up again!!!”…as the perpetual hysteria parade continues.
