The answer to my questions seems to be no. I was listening to a Slate Money Bonus podcast today where the author was interviewed. It sounded like a book some here may have read. It is on my TBR list now. Here is the Goodreads teaser summary of it.
The media nattered on about it constantly. I remember going in to an auto parts store that fall to buy some antifreeze for my car. They were sold out. Could not get any.

Growth cannot go on forever. Eventually you run out of resources. But materials can be recovered and recycled as long as you have energy to make it happen.
We have so many undeveloped energy sources, energy shortage is unlikely as long as the sun shines.
