Heat and UV have always been the enemies of rubber. That is why they tell you to store tires in a cool, dry, place. My mom learned, after moving to Arizona, that the heat kills car batteries too.

And plastics and synthetics! You buy UV protected canvas for your boat and some idiot sews it with unprotected polyester thread. It soon starts falling apart! It also happens with curtains exposed to the tropical sun.
